Male Hayward kiwi has a problem #750896

I have a male and female Hayward kiwi that I have had for about 4 years now. Just noticed that the male is looking terrible. Leaves are curled back and under, and ends of branches are dying. It is right next to the female which looks fine. What could be affecting the male but not the female plant? Male plant is on the left in photo attached.

poor soil in hay field #750895

Hey, I have an exhausted field in the Croom area near Upper Marlboro. I believe the field was tobacco, corn/soybeans and then was left fallow for two years. The owner (my neighbor) said I can use it for hay, so I drilled in seed last fall when I reseeded my own fields (no till drill rented through the soil conservation district). I took soil samples and amended as recommended. My fields look great, but the grass in the neighbors field is still about four inches high. There are more productive patches of Mojave desert than spots in that field. I would like recommendations on the best way to bring back the soil fertility. I am a history teacher and shepherd, not a farmer, and from California, so most of what I do know about farming means nothing out here.

I am planning to add some bushes to our back yard, which is next to open space in Boulder, CO. One of our goals is to help address some risks of erosion on the hill. Two of the three species I'm considering are on your firewise fire-resistant list. But my favorite species is not: the three-leaf sumac (Rhus Trilobata, I think). Fasciation on large plot of digitalis #750860

I have a lovely crop of digitalis.. largely self sown by stalks I threw over a fence two years ago. This year I noticed a freakish growth pattern that appears to be fasciation on the stalks of some of the older plants. See two photos below. I have cut out a bunch of affected stalks, but am wondering if my entire plot is doomed. Thanks for your insights.

Hello, my name is Ross and this year I'm finally moving from renting to homeownership and I was curious about plant varieties for the Burlington area. Two plants I'm specifically interested in are saffron, and grapes. I read about saffron in a recent article in the Vermont Digger and I wanted to make sure I was selecting the correct variety for our climate. When should you apply grub control to lawns in the midtown Omaha NE area for 2021 season? I am assuming application will vary depending on the weather / temperatures per season. The grass type is tall fescue / bluegrass and some secluded areas of decades old zoysia. Any rules of thumb to keep in mind? I have purchased a granular Trichlorfon already so wanted to know if this is the right product and also how long it will it protect per application.

Tiny moths #750845

We are noticing these small moths mostly in the basement, but also in a family room. From your website they could be clothes moths, but another site said they may be drain moths. I have tried poring boiling water down drains, using vinegar and baking soda and can't get rid of them or find the source. I have a baby and a small dog so do not want a toxic spray, plus the fact, there are not that many so can't just spray randomly. We are mostly trying to smack them, however, under most light conditions, you see them, then they disappear in the light. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, It seems that this spring I am hearing and seeing more birds than any other spring in my recollection. I have been living in Montgomery County for 26 years and I don't recall so much birdsong before. Not complaining-it's lovely. Just wondering if there is a reason why? I had my vegetable garden soil analyzed, and was it came back lacking only in nitrogen. Suggested I add 33-0-0 fertilizer. I am having trouble finding 33-0-0. I found one that is 20-0-0. Can I used more that recommended to get to 33-0-0?

stressed flowering trees #750812

I have two magnolias (a jane and a saucer) and a redbud that seem very stressed. All are about 2 years old; they blossom only a tiny bit, and one of the magnolias (the jane) has a reddish tinge to the leaves (I don't remember this from previous years). The soil is quite alkaline; last year when the magnolias were struggling (in July or August), Extension told me to put on Encap Fast-Acting Sulphur, which I did. I don't know if I need to do this yearly? Also, this year when I asked at Horrocks about the lack of blossoms on the redbud, they told me to use Espoma Triple Phosphate. I've not added anything to the soil this year, wondering 1. if these are the right things to use 2. if they can be used together or not. 3. if this is the right time of the year. I'd be grateful for any advice you can provide.

Hello -- I just moved to rural New Haven and am putting in a 1000 sf vegetable garden. My question is about fencing. I had a 7 foot black plastic deer fencing for my MD garden that worked fine, but I notice up here that we have a ground hog, rabbits and voles all around us with some deer in the vicinity as well. Any general fencing recommendations? I'd like to use 8' cedar stakes for fenceposts, but I'm curious about how high my fence needs to be and how I might enforce the ground-level fencing for the smaller animals. Thank you for any advice you might have.

Hello. I hope this email finds you well. Last fall I took a soil sample to UVM and got the attached report back. Realizing a few of our chemicals are out of wack I need some help figuring out just what to buy to add to the garden. Our garden is 17x32=544 sq feet and is just a general veggie garden.
