Is this plant a flower or weed #750844

Hi. We just bought a house in williston. At one time it had beautiful flower beds but had not been looked after for years. Trying to put it together but can not figure this one out

Hi Raymond.  Congratulations on the new home and the big garden project you are taking on.  I am not sure what this may be.  Could you take a few more photos, this time of only one leaf and another of the new stalk.  I'm hoping I'm wrong but this plant may be an non-native invasive.  With the additional photos, I may be able to confirm its identity.

Hi Raymond.  This is a non-native invasive plant called Knotweed.  According to the the Vermont invasives website, There are two varieties, the Gaint and the Japanese.  Each are similar in appearance except for the size of the leaves.
As with most invasive plants they were introduce as  an ornamental in the landscape and in particular with knotweed, for erosion control.  J
