Grub Control #750852

Asked May 19, 2021, 12:09 PM EDT

When should you apply grub control to lawns in the midtown Omaha NE area for 2021 season? I am assuming application will vary depending on the weather / temperatures per season. The grass type is tall fescue / bluegrass and some secluded areas of decades old zoysia. Any rules of thumb to keep in mind? I have purchased a granular Trichlorfon already so wanted to know if this is the right product and also how long it will it protect per application.

Expert Response

Gary, the dominant white grub in this region is the masked chafer. The beetle lays its eggs in early to mid-June, with eggs hatching in mid to late June.  The correct window to apply insecticides for managing white grub populations is in late June to early July.  This targets the grubs when they are small and easy to manage.
