Strange maple #750785

Asked May 19, 2021, 8:42 AM EDT

I have a maple that is both burgundy and green leaf

Anoka County Minnesota

Expert Response

Is it a multi stemmed  trunk? If so it is probably two different types of maple that have grafted together. If that is the case then is it possible one side is getting more sun than the other or that part of the tree was hit by a late frost and killed a few leaf buds and that part of the tree leafed out later?

Are all its leaves by bicolor? It is unusual for a Norway maple to have reddish leaves. It may signify a nutrient deficiency or what is the ground too wet for an extended period? Whatever is going on with your tree is not common. Sorry not to have more of an answer for you. An arborist may be able to give you an answer. They can have a close-up look at the entire tree which isn’t possible with photographs.

It is not multi-stemmed all the leaves are multicolored
