I am thinking of replacing my turf with Creeping Thyme. I have heard it doesn't need a whole lot of tending or water, once established. I live in Houston and want to know if this is a good idea, as the installation will be a bit costly.

Where can I access current and historic irrigated crop yield data for Weld County? #853446

Where can I access the most current and historic average annual crop yield data for the county with regard to irrigated corn and alfalfa yields?   I am an analyst researching the subject for several local authorities. The land owner is the best source but not always an option.  I notice the USDA data falls short on this more granular county data.  However, irrigated crop yields for Weld County are reported and show up in various reports on the CSU Extension. Any info is much appreciated.

Many of my tomatoes are developing brown spots on the skin. I suspect anthracnose, but am not sure. If it is, can I still use/eat the tomatoes if I peel off the outer skin layer?

I’ve been told by my nursery that my Otto Lyuken Laurels have a huge infestation of White Prunicola Scale. I was also told that I needed a professional to spray them. However I also found out that there is a certain time to spray to be effective. I live in Asheville,NC. Have I missed the deadline to spray? If so, what is the least expensive way to get rid of them; professional spraying or having them dug up and replacing them?

Please help identify this nemotode infestation. They get in our bodies, food, hair clothing and just about everywhere. Seem to be attracted most to furniture. Doctors say ask pest control, pest control says ask doctors. Nobody has any idea or answers.

I have 5 large oak trees surrounding my house and the acorns yearly are overwhelming. Difficult for my husband and I to pick up out of our landscape beds. what is eating my dahlia leaves #853029

I planted two dahlias this summer and they flowered beautifully. One plant in particular was bother by something eating the leaves all summer long. I searched for bugs, came out early in the morning and late at night. it seemed like with as much chewing damage that was done, that I would see some culprits. One time I found an earwig down in one flower and a few very small bugs that looked like flies. My zinnias also had lots of leaf chewing damage this summer, especially early on but they also bloomed well. This pest sleuthing is much harder than I thought. Any clues as to what did this and how I could see the pests if possible?

Can you help me diagnose and come up with a treatment plan for the attached white pine? I have several that look similar to this. An arborist told me they were planted too deep, which I’ve since corrected. Could it be blister rust? White pine weevil? Should I prune the dark brown branches?

Jade Plant Illness #852846

In the last few months some of my jade plants have acquired scabs or discoloration. I attach a photo. I have been raising jade plants for decades, never over-water, and have not changed any of my care practices with them. So it is quite surprising to see this emerge. I looked online but it doesn't seem like powdery mildew or black ring. Any ideas or suggested treatment? I am baffled, as I've had the main plant for half a century, and it has never had an illness. Thank goodness it has been spared, but some of the younger plants (3-5 years old) are cuttings from it, and they have these marks. Thank you! (The plants reside on a sunny southern window seat, and have not been moved in years. I also have not acquired new plants that are near them, that might infect them with something.)

We live in Central Oregon (NE area of Bend) and are setting up 4 raised beds, approximately 3 ft wide by 10 ft long. As sunlight can be an important factor, does it matter which directions our beds face (ie North-South, or East-West)? The area we are looking at is fairly sunny. We plant to grow a variety of crops. Where should I send update on experimental aspen tree replacement #852775

In 1990/1991?, NJC ORNAMENTAL HORTICULTURE, advisory board members were each given 2 Utah canyon maples. We were to plant them in a difficult part of our yard as possible. No tree wells or additional care (watering or fertilizer) was to be given. I was the only one that had success, I planted these trees about 15 feet apart, on the west side of house. This narrow strip of barren land laid between my house and neighbors driveway. The sun was brutally scorching there. It had been impossible to grow even a weed. I never had soil tested and had applied disintegrating feed sulfur 2yrs prior. I’d did that in hopes of fixing the CEC of the soil that was visibly laden with earthworm castings. My property boarders an area once known as Prospt pond. In 1874 it was the Sterling Gun Club and was a worm farm in the 50’s. As instructed , no special care was given. Not even winter watering. Fast forward to 2019. I’d moved down the street and was getting my old house ready to sell. A neighbor man asked if he could cut down dead trees for firewood. It was late fall and I specifically told him which trees he could cut. When all was said and down he’d cut down my canyon maples. The trees had surpassed my expectations. Both were very healthy. Trunks were straight with diameters of 10” and 6”. Leaves had good color. I don’t recall ever seeing them with noticeable fall colors. But they were on the side of the house that was seldom viewed. Th shade they provided was great and I really liked their upright habit of growth. Approximate heights were, 20’’ and 16’. Trees were drought tolerant , insect and disease free, required very minimal pruning. I think I have photos somewhere and will send them if or when I find them

i recently took out window ac. And also opened the wall to boiler for venting. Not sure if they are reason why but figure I mention..
