growing shallots #852709

Asked October 09, 2023, 10:29 PM EDT

Hello, I buy shallot bulbs every year; plant them in the Fall and harvest the following summer. Can some this year's shallots be planted for a crop next summer? Thank you for your time, Jody

Expert Response

Thank you Jody for your question to "Ask Extension".  The answer to your question is yes you can use the shallots you grew this season to plant for next seasons crop.  I would suggest not planting any shallot that have sprouted.  I have also provided you with a link to an OSU website with information on shallots that I think you will enjoy.
