I have an area bordered by my front steps, sidewalk, and front and side area of the home. In this area I have planted a boxwood hedge, in a square. I have attempted to grow an attractive ground cover around the boxwood, to fill in the area in order to eliminate the need for mulch. This area faces straight south without any shade so the sun can get fairly intense. My question, will Ajuga choke out the boxwoods? Can Ajuga handle that much sun? Is there a variety that is less invasive and more sun friendly?

I would like to know about soil testing for lawn and garden - how do I go about this, where can I get a kit to perform this and would I send this to a lab etc. I also have some evergreen trees I'd like to identify as they are not doing well all of a sudden and I'm not sure what they are and how best to care for them. The leaves on my orchid are turning yellow. I got it in a plastic container with no drainage holes. I have since put it in a similar container with holes. Should I put it in a terracotta pot? Is there special soil for orchids? Should it get a lot or a little sun?
