It came up in a discussion about spoiled food and how to dispose it. Someone said to throw away the entire jar so you don’t breathe in botulism spores. I say dump the contents and wash jar as normal. If I find a jar in the pantry that came unsealed and is spoiled should I really throw away a perfectly good jar?
Hello,
We have a Northwood maple tree in our front yard that was planted a couple years ago before we bought the house. The tree is only 1-2 feet away from the underground Xcel gas line and we're wondering if that is too close? I contacted Xcel and Connexus (because there are underground electrical lines nearby too, and they only have tree planting recommendations for overhead lines. They both said to contact you for recommended planting distance from underground lines. How far away from underground electrical and underground gas lines do we need to be to replant/move this Northwood maple tree? It looks like if we put it halfway between each line, it gives 7 feet on either side of the tree. There was a previous ash tree that was mature size and planted only about 2 feet away from the underground gas line, and we see a lot of neighbors that have tree and shrubs right by underground lines too. Can you also let me know if there are any shrub proximity planting recommendations for underground lines? Connexus said that larger shrubs might not be able to be planted near underground lines and I would have to ask you if smaller shrubs are okay to plant near or on top of any type of underground lines. Thank you!
The attached image is of a smokebush which volunteered in my flowerbed this spring. All of its growth has occurred this spring/summer, from a tiny seedling to the tallest limb being 4 feet tall. I intend to transplant it to the center of the bed, about 3 feet away. It will have the same soil and amount of sunlight. I would like to train the bush to grow as a small tree.
Do you have recomendations on how to prune the smokebush to become tree-shaped?
I plan to transplant it by Oct 20, which is as late as I can because we are leaving and will not return until early June.
Should I prune the bush before I go, or wait until I return in June? Or is it better to wait for a year when I can trim it after a freeze and before it buds?
Thanks for your help-
S Robinaugh
Hi,
We have one of those three tiered wooden boxes, I believe, for planting herbs. Is there a planting guide for FredCo that lists time of year, etc to plant each type of herb? Thank you.
Hello. As shown in the pictures attached, the newly planted European hornbeam has brown spots and margins all over the place. Could you please let me know what it could be, bacteria? Fungus? And is there any treatment available? It had some brown spots when I bought it, but became much worse only three days later.
New to Grand County, Colorado. Altitude 8700. Looking for recomendations for trees and bushes to plant in the 1 acre lot we have. There are no trees there presently. They will get no regular irrigation - just rain and supplemental water by bucket about every other weekend. Thank you.
I have two problems. One concerns my azaleas (2 next to each other) and the other my milkweed. Can you please help me identify the problems and provide treatment ideas?
Thanks.
