Where can I get the best seeds for vegetables and herbs?

We live in central Ohio. We are wanting to know what seeds to start for a container garden right now.

Hi! We just moved to Pleasant Hill from California and I’m looking for a recommendation of nurseries where I can find vegetable plants and bear root fruit tree starts. Also, do you have a place you would recommend for compost/potting soil in large quantities?

Hello, We're getting quotes for our roof to be replaced and the company we're most likely going with recommends GAF shingles that have copper grandules in them to prevent algae growth. I'm concerned because we have a rain barrel system that I use to water our garden beds, including our vegetable gardens and fruit trees/fruit tree guilds. I'm assuming that the copper granules may sluff off some material but I'm not sure how much of that occurs, and/or if it is considered detrimental to collecting rain barrel water for gardening. Do you have any insight into this? We do use mesh to stop particles from collecting in the barrels when possible but I have yet to research any other filtration system or particle mitigation.

Is there a calendar of events where one can see upcoming or past virtual presentations, seminars, etc on horticulture/ag/etymology etc. for MI or this region? Thank you.

Cannot find specific characteristics of Goodland and Zestar apples on the MN extension site; i.e. zone hardiness, care, ripening, semi-dwarf vs. standard size,etc. Often I don't know what to click on or enter in "search", but when I do, it is not specific enough. Catalogs and other websites vary as to recommended zone hardiness. Please send a link or reference for same. Thank you. M.R.

Hi there. I noticed this beautifully structured spruce tree while driving through southern Lorain county. It seemed to have a much more defined structure than any spruce i have ever seen. I do not believe it is a Norway spruce based on the upward trajectory of the branches. Could you help identify it please?

I was excited by prospect of growing Kiwi here (Albany) and found the OSU Extension article "Growing Kiwifruit in Your Home Garden" exceptionally useful regarding placement, support, growing and caring for Kiwi. Great article. I would like to know how aggressive is a Kiwi's root system? Should I worry about competition if it is too close to my raised beds? Could the roots cause damage if I place a plant too close to my house foundation?

I want to plant a dwarf variety of sunflowers (not sure which one yet) on my patio in a grow bag. When is a good time to start planting seeds this Spring? I'm thinking March but heard it may be too early due to frost.
