How can I save my trees? #847945

My pine trees are dying. I am not sure the type of pine they are, but it appears as though they are dying from the bottom spreading upward and the tree starts dying close to the trunk and then spreading outward. I have already had to remove a couple trees, but I would like to save the rest if possible

How to keep pumpkins until fall #847924

Hi, In the past I've had some sort of grub/larva get into the base of my pumpkin vines and within a few days the vines shrivel an disappear. This year I applied Sevin dust shortly after they seeds sprouted and had decent luck and have mature orange pumpkins. But now the stems are disappearing (not dying off like they normally would after frost, but practically disappearing they shrivel up so much). They've been kept watered, so it looks like something has gotten to the stems again. Two questions: 1. What's the best way to prevent these stem wreckers? 2. What's the best way to keep the pumpkins fresh/intact until my nieces and nephews come for them in October? :-) Thanks!

I have a very large pecan tree next to my house and am wondering if it should be trimmed for concerns of large branches falling on my house. If it should be trimmed how much should be trimmed? I do not want to cause any stress to the tree as it is very old.

Dying trees #847609

Hello, I've got some older trees in my back yard (25yr). I planted a couple pecans in line with them 4yr ago, bought and planted by a professional nursery. 2 yes after planting, the pine nearest them got sick and started dying. The next year the closest of the young pecans started dying. I hoped it was stress from the strong ice storm we had. The next year the other pecan died and this year another pine in the line of trees is dying. I've attached a picture of the tree line and it shows how the proximal ends of the pine needle bundles are brown while the distal are still green. The pecans just died off quickly. Any suggestions. There are many treesin the area and I don't want this to move into my neighbors yard. I do drain a pool into my yard surely stressing everything but I stopped exhausting it near the treesthe year they started getting sick.

I live in Vergennes with clay soil. I dug out 6 inches of the existing soil with the intention of replacing it with "screened topsoil" from Agway in Middlebury. I was told unamended plain soil is best for natives. Today I was told that lots of soil sold around here as topsoil is enriched with compost, mostly from dairy farms. I don't really know what Agway's soil consists of. The garden I'm doing is 13' X 9'. I plan to buy starts from Northeast Pollinator Plants in Milton. What would be the best "soil" to buy to make the garden as weed-free as possible?

Hello.  I planted three lilacs, 5’ apart , about four years ago. Just this summer one of them developed yellow leaves with some brown areas.  It could be a watering issue but it’s happening to only one of them.Any ideas or suggestions?  Thank you.

Is it a rambling rose? #846917

I have, what I believe to be, a rambling rose in the hedgerow of the property I bought ten plus years ago. I have seen no flowers of late (not sure when they might have been there last). When I research how to care for it (instead of letting it wild), I bump into articles about invasive Multiflora Rosa. How do I tell if this is something to cultivate (rambler) or if this is a plant to minimize? I do not have a photo but can send if needed. Again, no flowers of late, I count seven pilated leaves, not sure what a fringed stipule would look like, and currently no rose hips. Any insight would be appreciated before I put the energy into clearing the area and buying it a trellis :) Thanks much.

many leaves are coming off the aspen trees in the Evergreen area #846869

For the past week the strong wind is blowing off many leaves from the aspen trees in the community I live in.  The altitude here if 8,000 ft to 8,400 ft.  There's no obvious problem with the trees and the leaves look fine.  The tree by the front door is 50+ years old and have never seen this before.

Hi, I'm a master gardener from Laguna Beach, new resident of Lakewood. I left a beautiful Louis Edmond manzanita that I babied for 20 years and figured I'd left them for good, I was in zone 8. Just went to a nursery and there was a manzanita!!!! Are manzanitas something you see around the Denver ares?

What to do about damaged tree #846562

We have a Venus Dogwood tree that got damaged this past winter and is having new growth coming from the trunk but didn't flower this year. I'm wondering if I should prune off the branches that do not have leaves on them or wait until another winter has passed to see if they will have new growth again?
