Large Pecan Tree, should I trim it? #847876

Asked August 30, 2023, 10:27 AM EDT

I have a very large pecan tree next to my house and am wondering if it should be trimmed for concerns of large branches falling on my house. If it should be trimmed how much should be trimmed? I do not want to cause any stress to the tree as it is very old.

Mr. Torres,
I've reassigned your inquiry to Mr. Potter. Mr. Potter is a horticulture agent and better equipped to provide a recommendation concerning your pecan tree.

Thanks!

Large pecan trees seldom need major pruning. Late winter when the trees are dormant is the normal time to remove dead wood, low hanging limbs or branches that are in the way, endangering structures or power lines. However, pruning can be done anytime it is necessary.
