I dealt with a lot of powdery mildew during this growing season. If affected my cucumbers in my organic vegetable garden, as well as the zinnias on both sides of my house. The leaves and stems were greatly affected and very unsightly. I also do not use any type of weed killer in my lawn, so there was a large area around my zinnias where the plantain and dandelions were also covered in powdery mildew. I removed the affected plants and debris near the end of the growing season when the powdery mildew was too unsightly. My question is - what do I need to do to my garden beds/soil to prevent any of the mildew spores from overwintering? Would it be productive to mulch my vegetable garden beds with dried leaves, or will that exacerbate the issue next year?

I have 3 acres, 2 of them were planted in CRP this year. The acre has pine trees on it and there’s honeysuckle around the west and north sides with a drainage ditch on the south side running east to west at an angle. I want to replace the aging honeysuckle on the west side next to the CRP, approximately 170’worth. I have access to either dogwood/red ozure, or service berry. Bare root. I read that dogwood should be planted 20 feet away from pine trees. But I can’t do that. I want to have sort of a hedge along the West side this year and eventually the north side as well. The North side will be quite shaded by the pine trees. Any ideas?

I believe we had a Northern Harrier in our back yard yesterday, November 24. It attacked and killed a hen. We are wondering if it was, indeed, a Northern Harrier.

I found this mossy ball in my garden (November 24), specifically my south facing native plants garden. It's about the size of a tangerine and seems lightweight, although I have only poked it with a stick. It was not attached to anything. Can you help identify it?

These crepe myrtles are located in a school courtyard in large planters in full sun surrounded by concrete/block walls. Each year they are heavily pruned :( but usually come back and flower. However, they have not put out new growth in over a year and are covered with dark brown lichen-like scabs on the bark (see pictures). We are wondering what the issue is and how to solve it. Thank you.
