With the drought last year, my lawn suffered and the weeds took over. To give the grass a chance to grow this year, I will need to kill off the weeds in the spring. My issue is my property is lakefront so I am limited in the use of herbicides. Is there a herbicide that I could use and if not, what is the best strategy I can use for killing the weeds and planting new grass?

A few years ago I had a clothing moth infestation. I thought I'd solved my problem, but found a few moths (they don't all look the same) in traps. I'd like someone to take a quick look at the moths and identify them for me, please. Is a short in-person visit possible, please? If not, please advise who may be able to help me. If they are clothing moths, now is the perfect time for me to put all I own in my porch to kill them this winter. Thanks much.

We bought a 5 gallon potted dwarf albert spruce for Christmas - want to support our tree population We kept our tree inside for 2 weeks (as research suggested), watered enough but not too much to keep the very small and fine roots moist, and sprayed need=m oil on the needles to minimize evaporation. Now our tree is in the garage exposed to light from a south facing window. the pot is in a bowl with no more than 1" of water the bowl and pot are surrounded by cloth and foam wrapping - not the branches Should we be concerned about the roots or the water in the bowl freezing if the temp dips way below freezing - we live in Grand Ledge so this is a possibility Please advise Many thanks! My back yard is wet most of the year and would like to install a French drain or similar sub-surface drainage. Looking for some guidance on how to design the system. Primarily depth of trench and spacing between trenches/drain legs. Trying to figure out how far water will travel laterally through the soil to a trench. I want to design it with enough drainage. Don't want to go to the expense and effort to install a system and still have wet parts of the yard. I live in Brimfield township. Is there a design guide available? Thanks, Steve

Hello. I have 15,000 sq ft of lawn (Kentucky bluegrass/fine fescue) surrounding my home. I had submitted soil samples to this extension 3 years ago and have been following the fertilizer recommendations that were given using organic fertilizer. It has worked great! Unfortunately roughly 2500 sq feet of the lawn has been taken over by crabgrass. Can I use non organic fertilizer/crabgrass controller on the 2500 sq ft of affected area and use organic fertilizer on the remaining unaffected area or would you recommend just using one fertilizer or fertilizer/weed control on the entire lawn? Or is there a different approach you’d recommend? This service has been very helpful for me. Thank you for your time.
