These are 4 Burford Hollies in partial shade in front of my house. A fifth one on the far right died last summer. The third from the left is dead, the fourth from the left is about to die, the second from the left is struggling, and the left-hand holley is perfect. They are about 30 years old and I've never had any problems with them. I see no signs of insects or root rot. Coud this be phytophthora? If so, can I plant new plants in the same place? Do I have to treat the soil first?
Thank you!
