Wildflower seed mix recommendation #865564

Asked April 23, 2024, 10:40 AM EDT

Hello! I'm looking for a recommendation for a wildflower seed mix that will grow well in Central Oregon. I would love it to be drought tolerant and deer resistant if possible. The area that I have for it is full sun but doesn't have irrigation (but I know that I will need to water it during germination.) Thank you!

Here's a great summary article by OSU on growing wildflowers in central Oregon:
https://extension.oregonstate.edu/gardening/flowers-shrubs-trees/growing-wildflowers-central-oregon

It lists some good varieties to consider:

  • Black-eyed Susan Rudbeckia hirta
  • Blue Flax Linum perenne
  • California Popp Eschscholzia californica
  • Coneflower, Purple Echinacea purpurea
  • Foxglove Digitalis purpurea
  • Godetia Clarkia amoena
  • Lance-leaf Coreopsis Coreopsis lanceolata
  • Mountain Hollyhock Iliamna rivularis
  • New England Aster Aster novae-angliae
  • Pot Marigold Calendula officinalis
  • Scarlet Gilia Ipomopsis aggregata
  • Sweet William Pinks Dianthus barbatus
You could probably do an on-line search for central Oregon wildflower seeds and find some commercial offerings.  Look for these recommended varieties in whatever mix you purchase.

Good luck and enjoy!  C
