I have a large magnolia bush(8ft, 20 yrs old) infested with scale. First time seen but there is a lot of it. It seems hard to treat so should I cut it down? Too much to trim away or pick off and its in back yard near other bushes and perennials and dog, so don't really want to use chemical spray. I would like to try something. Thanks for any suggestions.

Fertilizing Honeycrisp tree #839129

Good day, My question concerns my honeycrisp tree. In the spring I used Vigaro fruit tree spikes and they are only to be used in the spring and fall, since then I've noticed that the top portion of the tree's leaves are more of a lime colored leaf instead of a deep green color as the bottoms are. Is there lack of some nutrient that's causing this. Where we live we have a well with a lot of iron in the water. Another question I just noticed today that the Japanese beetles are back and they just infest my apple tree to the point of destroying the majority of the leaves, I imagine it puts a lot of stress on the tree also, I've tried using Bonide fruit tree spray and it has not done a thing at controlling them. Do you have any better suggestions at controlling these pest. Thank you for your time.

I work at the OKC VA and we have a raised bed garden for the veterans in the program I work in. We started this garden about a year ago, but this is our first growing season. We have had very little yield and things seem to be stunted. I have adjusted our watering as I believe things were over watered at some point. We would like to have a robust garden, but need a little help to get there. I don't have any images currently. Any assistance you can give will be welcomed!

Hi, I was directed to our site on reducing turf grass...and it gives lots of reasons, and says "For a list of specific groundcovers that perform well in Delaware, consult the list at the end of this fact sheet. " There is a list of resources but none seem that! I suggest you include it as a link earlier in the article there and the other one that is similar.

We have a native plant front garden with Short Grass prairie grass, dryland sedge, and many typed of annual and perennial flowers. This wet spring has been extra-usual and our yard is especially beautiful. We would like to share it with those aspiring to a native plant xeriscape as an example of what a mature (35 year) effort can look like. We don't know who to contact. Years ago we approached a reporter from the Daily Camera but they never followed up on the offer.

I would like to learn if it is environmentally responsible to implement in-ground worm bins in my back yard garden. I recently learned that there are no native worms in Ohio, and that non-native species, such as red wigglers, which are typical for worm bin composting, are problematic in this area. Is there an approved method to using worm bin composting here? Thank you for your help with this question.

Hello, I have an area under a very tall oak tree that is very badly infested with coltsfoot. I’m wondering if you have suggestions for native plants that can compete and hopefully thrive in this area. I have planted sweet woodruff and it does ok but ends up lost in the coltsfoot.

I am wondering if these pictures look like cucumber mosaic? If so, the three cucumber plants are all vined together and would they all now be contaminated? They are also planted adjacent to some strawberry plants do I need to worry about contamination that way? A few of the baby cukes have turned yellow and withered but most are looking fine. This is the honey plus hybrid. First time cuke grower here

Please forward this question to Signe Danler: Should I mulch my hairy manzanita or add rocks or what? It developed a fungal infection and I carefully removed the infected leaves a few weeks ago. Then I added mulch. Maybe mulch is a bad choice for this plant? Should I use rocks instead or just leave the grassy lawn under it? How do I keep this plant happy and keep the fungus away? Thank you.

I have a mature Merrill Magnolia that has oval whiteish colored fuzzy masses on the underside of stems. They are spaced about 6” apart along the entire length and all over the tree. No other apparent damage visible yet. What is this and what is the treatment. I can upload a photo Thank you

We have a yellowjacket nest INSIDE the trunk of a living crabapple tree. These wasps are smaller than typical and very actively coming and gowing. There is frass daily generated under the entrance hole. As you can guess it would not be easy to send a photo for ID. I'm curious about this unusual behavior and this species. Also, the location is beside a recreational spot frequently used, but I do not care to kill them. But, wondering about control.

Pine disease #838178

I noticed that our swiss pillar pine has these white spots on all of the branches on the bottom third of the tree. They are not present on any of this year's growth. We've had the tree for about 4 years and this is the first that I've noticed it. What should I do?
