    But my son gifted me with two hollies - one, a variegated Japanese holly, the other, a Japanese pencil skyrocket holly. It's just above freezing for the high temp these days, so putting them in the ground is not amenable. Right now I have them in the garage. Do you have any recommendations for keeping these strays alive until spring? I have a screened-in porch which gets some light; I thought that might be a possibility. See photos. Thanks for any advice you may have.

    Good morning, I’m working on the plans for a new strawberry bed for this coming year and I have a few questions - I’m hoping you might be able to help me. Overall, I’d like to see berries this year from the bed. My plan includes creating raised rows in direct sun and I’d like to use a combination of June and ever-bearing berries. I’m thinking of making rows that are 30 inches wide and space the plants at 12 inches. So, a few questions: 1. What are your suggestions on the types of berries - I’m in southern MN - both June and overbearing. I do plan to make Jam with them. 2. What is the best way to deal with weeds with little maintanence? 3. What do I need to do to see berries in the same year I plant them? 4. What is the best soil make-up for the berries?     I have a Cherokee Princess Flowering Dogwood in my yard which was planted two years ago. Very recently a deer rubbed its antlers against the trunk of the tree on three separate areas of the trunk, essentially denuding it in these areas. I have attached pictures. Is there anything I can do to treat or apply to this to keep the tree from dying (and anything I can do to prevent further deer rub in the future)? Thank you

    We are looking to move to Montcalm County fair from Kent County and we are trying to find a club or resources on how it works for Montcalm. Any information would be greatly appreciated.     use neem oil/spinosad mix after bonide tree and plant guard #890455

    post blossom, i wanted to try a neem oil/spinosad mix with captan or sufur for brown rot on fruit trees. i read two testimonials on forums that Bonide Tree and Plant Guard stops brown rot while serving as an insecticide/fungicide. The instructions limit applications to 4 or 5 times a year : pink bud, petal drop, fruit set and once ever 14 days with fruit set--which immediately runs up against the 4-5 limit. Something seems off . Is it ok to start the neem oil/ spinosad applications after the Bonide  treatment is finished very early in the season -- or am i missing something? Also, i understand that to stop brown rot, provide copper and hort oil during the dormant season, apply fungicide for blossom blight, and also after the fruit starts to show color. The latter is not possible with the Bonide if it can be applied applied 4 or 5 times.

    Dying palm trees at new house #890452

    Hi, we recently purchased a home and there are what we think are majesty palms planted in the front flower bed. Certainly a curious decision from the prior owners. We noticed today that several branches one one have snapped and that the other is turning yellow/brown at the tips. This is following the dry autumn and the first legitimately cold weather of the season. Is there anything we can do for these trees or are they going to die? I have attached a picture of the tree with collapsed branches.

    Hi, I'm newly responsible for a lawn where a 10'x10' area is pretty thickly covered by needles from a white pine. Should I remove the needles and compost them in order to save the lawn? Thank you very much for being a trusted resource.

    we have 2 bee hives, they did great, came home after being gone 2 days and the one hive was gone . Alot of dead bees the rest just gone, some dead bees in other but that one is still doing good.  What would of caused this ? and will the honey be good to extract?

    Hello I know that popcorn is a cottage food but are you allowed to pop the popcorn fresh at the event your going to with your popcorn machine and then put it in the bags like you get at a fair? Also I do freeze dried candy, am I allowed to have a jar or package of candy that if someone wants to sample the candy, I can take a sample out of the jar/bag and put it in a cup or their hand for them to try the sample or do i have to put them individually in portion cups before I get to the event?
