  • culvers root queen of diamonds sterile? #865396

    Hi there

    I planted 2 queen of diamonds culver's root plants before I knew there were problems with nativars. Are these plants sterile or should I get rid of? I've also got a 'ruby sippers' supposedly native hydrangea. Same question. It's not going to survive where it is anyway, but I thought I'd ask.

    My yard (in Lyndhurst) is being invaded by what I'm pretty sure is Lesser Celandine. I've seen it around my neighborhood but not in my yard until the last two years. It started in the woods at the back of my property but now it is popping up in my lawn. I've heard you can't kill it... that you have to dig it out without leaving any tubers behind but that's impossible. I'd need a bull dozer. Is there anything I can do?

    Good morning we have a lake home south of Detroit Lakes along the Pelican River. We are having trouble with wood peckers in our trees that are only about 3-4 years old. We have tried everything and are worried that they are going to damage our trees. Do you have any advice for us??? There are several places in our park that are having the same issues. We would appreciate any help. Thank you

    Scale on holly, when is a good time to spray and what to use? #865387

    My holly trees are very tall, some over 20 ft.

    There is soft scale covering some stems, and some on the leaves. I'm in College Park MD area. Can I spray now, at the end of April? And what should I use?

    I will use a hose end pesticide sprayer.

    I purchased bare root apple trees from the East Hill Tree farm in Plainfield. I am supposed to pick these up on Saturday. BUT East Hill's website now says that they have discovered they have Asian jumping worms. Is it safe to transfer bare root plants? if yes, what precautions should be taken to avoid spreading the worms via eggs? Thanks, Marsha

    Hi there! I just got a new garden bed I want to turn into a cutting garden. My husband also would like to get some bulk soil to add some topsoil to the lawn. We are wondering if there is any soil we can use for both the lawn and in the garden bed to cut costs. Thank you! :)

    Hi Emily. I just read your article about cherry laurel problems. The first thing all of you need to tell homeowners the names of native plants that would be good replacements. You could explain that native plants are adapted to the region where they are grown so they are naturally more resistant to diseases. Many are deer resistant. Thanks for considering this request.     Black knot for plums #865370

    Why does Michigan States extension say sulfur is NOT protective against black knot on edible plums but I recently paid for the OSUs agriculture extension PDF with info about fruit trees and in it states sulfur IS a preventative against black knot. So who is right ? I'm already using chlorothalonil in the early spring until shuck split but need something after shuck split and according to OSU, sulfur works. Any tips appreciated.

    Help! Found on carpet on stairway close to wall #865369

    Found about 6 dead on carpeted stairs leading to top floor of home.. nestled close to wall where carpet meets wall. We have a very clean house and never see bugs - says a lot for North Carolina.
