We have an old rose which has bloomed spectacularly for many years (see first picture). Its main stems are inches in diameter and weave around a picket fence, sending branches up vertically that leaf and flower profusely from spring to late autumn. This year, for no discernable reason, it started dying back at the time when it normally would be starting to leaf out. Some branches did leaf out but then died; those which continue to leaf out are not vigorous. At this point, about 50% of the branches seem to have died, and this trend is continuing. I am quite distraught as it would be tragic to lose this rose and I have no idea what to do. Any insights and suggestions would be most welcome.
