There are areas along the trunk, branches, and ends of branches on my young apple tree that have what appears to be black soot. Especially where branches have broken off or deer have nibbled off the growing tips. (In spite of trying to fence it)
Is there anything to treat this? There are also a few places where the bark has appeared to split. I don't know if this is related
I believe it is a standard size Harlson , about 7 ft tall x 6ft diameter. (It should be taller, but the leader got broken off last year ) Base of trunk about 3 " diameter. It did produce some apples last year.
