    Maple Tree Not Budding #864757

    My maple tree is producing very few, and small, buds. It is currently April 16, 2024. The same occurred last year, but to a lesser extent. Last year the tree produced a small volume of leaves, and I suspect the same may occur this year. There is a significant amount of what I believe is lichen growth on the trunk. I pruned a number of branches 2 years ago. I took a sample of the end of a limb within the past week, and I observed green growth. I am in the city of Saint Clair. Do you have any information or suggestions that you can offer? Thank you in advance.

    Hello, I am hoping to identify these pests. They appear late summer and into fall and have been getting worse the last 2 years. Besides eating the leaves on some of our Dogwood bushes they literally are eating our house. In a matter of minutes they can bore into a 2x4 deck railing or 6x6 post, they also eat the siding and trim boards. They come out of the lawn next to the porch and the rock areas next to the house. I killed hundreds last year with dish soap and water in a pump sprayer but they just keep coming during the day. They are about 3/4" to 1" long when fully grown. Any help to eliminate them is greatly appreciated so I don't have to replace any more siding or trim boards, thank you.

    Disease in two rhododendrons #864755

    Last year, the new buds/leaves/small branches on two of the rhodies began to die. The early signs were black spots/patches on leaves. The problem is much worse now. Have been advised that they are inflected with an unknown pathogen and lace bugs. Advised also spread worm castings around their bases and mulch with hemlock out to the drip line. I'd like to save the plants if possible and also prevent these diseases from spreading to my three other rhododendrons. I'd also like a recommendation for a Benton County rhododendron expert who could help me in person.

    weed eradication near vineyard #864754

    I am now on property with a gravel driveway that runs approx 5 feet from a vineyard (mine). The weeds growing through the gravel have not been maintained this past year and are overrunning the area. Is there a spray I can use that will not harm the vines? Thank you.

    Watering tomato plants #864751

    I plan to grow tomatoes on a string trellis this year, with hail protection above. In our dry front range climate is it ok to water tomatoes with a sprinkler system or is drip system preferred. Seems like I would get better root system with sprinkler system. Does it really harm the leaves if they get wet with sprinklers. Thanks

    Clothing moths #864749

    I am having trouble with moths in two closets. I've tried hanging pheromone sticky tents, cedar cubes and hanging cedar hooks. Can you please help? Will I be emailed if this is answered or do I keep checking in the Ask Extension area?

    Formerly healthy jasmine in SE PDX is now sick #864748

    Hello there, Please see attached photos for examples of discoloration and disease a jasmine vine against my back fence. It was planted ~4 yrs ago, in SE PDX, where it gets a good amount of sun in summer. It has done very well until this year, when it developed spots on many of the leaves. A similar vine further down the fence died completely over the winter. If you can provide any insights into what this is and how I should treat it, I would be very grateful. There is a kiwi next to it that does not appear to be affected. The dogwood in front of it also seems ok. Thank you! Best regards, V
