Fungus - residential lawn #893750

Asked March 06, 2025, 12:35 PM EST

I called OSU Extension the day before yesterday at<personal data hidden>. I talked to a lady who took down my name and email address and me question. She said I would receive an answer to my question via email. As of this writing, I have not received anything from the Extension Service. My questions is.....what is the most common fungus or fungi affecting residential lawns in East Medford? Our home is under Roxy Ann Peak at 2200' above sea level. Our yard is primarily perennial rye. Thank you in advance for your response.

Expert Response

Hi there, it sounds like you reached the SOREC Plant Clinic. More information about the SOREC Plant Clinic can be found here: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/mg/jackson/sorec-plant-clinic

I'd recommend following up with the SOREC Plant Clinic first as they have limited hours in the winter and are likely working to get you a good answer. From November through March, hours for the Plant Clinic are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10AM - 2PM, so you can reach them via phone during those times. I also recommend checking your "junk" or "spam" folders in your email to see if the Plant Clinic's response was filtered out of your primary inbox.

The folks at the SOREC Plant Clinic will be able to best answer this question, but you are welcome to reach out to the Jackson County Agricultural Master Gardener and Home Horticulture Coordinator, Grace Florjancic, with additional questions. Grace can be contacted using this webpage: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/people/grace-florjancic

I hope this is helpful information and the SOREC Plant Clinic is a useful resource for you! Please feel free to write back in to Ask Extension at any time.

Best,
