We're happy to offer some suggestions, but first we'd need information about the site conditions so we can narrow-down some options:
  • How much summer sun is it exposed to? (Full sun would be 6-8 or more hours daily.)
  • Does the soil drain well, tend to flood or stay wet after heavy rain, or dry out quickly? Do you suspect there is any salt contamination from either storm surge, the water table, or salt spray from a nearby body of water?
  • Are there deer that regularly browse in that area? (Do the plants need to be unappealing to deer?)
What is the minimum and maximum height you prefer for plants within the planting? (Without relying on pruning to manage a plant's size.) Is there a limit on plant width?

Do you need any of the plants to be evergreen? (Maryland doesn't have many native evergreens, so that would considerably shrink the list of candidate species.)

A photo of the planting site can also help us make recommendations, but the information above will be enough for us to share some ideas.
