New raised bed soil “recipe” #892957

Asked February 22, 2025, 11:36 AM EST

Hi! I’m planning on adding a raised bed in my backyard. I was wondering what components to mix together to make a good soil mix. For example, what percent topsoil, manure, peat moss (or equivalent) should I use to fill this new bed. I plan to grow vegetables in this bed. Do you have suggestions for reputable dealers to buy in bulk? Thank you SO much!!

Hello from Licking County,
The recipe is simple:  1/3 good quality top soil, 1/3 compost and 1/3 sand.  https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/faq/what-would-be-good-soil-mix-raised-bed
I am sorry that we are not allowed to make specific recommendations for dealers.  I would start with a trusted name in your area—maybe where you would purchase bulk mulch.  Here is an idea to get quick search results for you to check out.  Just put this into your web browser: soil and mulch bulk dealers franklin county ohio
