apple trees #892871

Asked February 20, 2025, 10:37 AM EST

Hello would like to prune my apple trees now, this weekend. They were pretty in need in the fall but did not get to it. I see we have warmer temps this weekend and next week. Is that a problem for pruning ? I thought I might have enough lead way before spring thaw but not sure now.

Expert Response

Thanks for the question.  As long as the weather is comfortable/warmer, now is the preferred time to prune apple trees before they begin to leaf out in April. If you are interested, I happen to be offering a class on pruning next week. The class is via Zoom through Community Ed, Tuesday, March 4th, 6:30-8:30. Go to Stillwater Community Ed. For more info.
