Master Food Preservation #892868

Asked February 20, 2025, 9:27 AM EST

Hello, I was wondering if UNH Extension offered a master food preservation certificate? Like water bath canning, pressure canning, etc.. If not, do you have any recommendations? I currently do both however I am also a big believer in certification in order to teach others.

Hello Anne,

Thanks for reaching out to the UNH Extension Yard and Garden Infoline. Unfortunately, we don't currently have a master food preserver training program. This is something that may end up happening in the future, but not currently. I am planning a series on food preservation for this summer and fall but I'm still in the planning phase of that so I don't have much more info to share. Keep an eye on the UNH Extension Events page, which is where any events will be listed.

Two years ago, I attended a Master Food Preserver Training in Chemung County in upstate New York. I believe they don't host these in the same county every year, but you might want to look into that. It was a 3-day training with lots of hands-on experience. UMaine Extension also offers a training, however, I believe it's only open to ME residents. You might want to reach out to them to see if they'd make an exception.

I hope this helps and feel free to ask if you have any further questions!
