Peach Trees #892510

Asked February 10, 2025, 1:50 PM EST

I am interested in which peach tree varieties do particularly well in Delaware. Also curious if you have information on best practices and common pests or illnesses that I should prepare for. Where can I buy saplings if I dont want to start from seed?

I am not a fruit specialist. I forwarded your question to our fruit and vegetable specialist. In the meantime, here is a reference about general fruit tree care.

Hello Shawn,
You should order peach trees from a reputable nursery. Choose varieties that are resistant to bacterial spot and speck. See this post in Weekly Crop Update for a list of varieties: https://sites.udel.edu/weeklycropupdate/?p=23385. Later blooming varieties will be less susceptible to freeze damage. Common disease issues are Brown Rot and Peach Leaf Curl. Plum curculio and Japanese Beetles are common insect pests.
