It is Feb. 7. I just received a dormant Spicebush. Can I plant it outside now? The ground has not yet frozen here in Gambier OH, but that seems risky. If I keep it indoors until warm weather should I plant it in a pot and keep moist until time to plant in the spring?

Expert Response
Perennial shrubs can be planted in early spring when the ground is not saturated and no longer frozen. Even if your conditions are like this now, given the changeable nature of the weather, it would be best to wait. Plant the shrub in a pot and keep moist in a cool room or garage until planting time.
