It is Feb. 7 and I just received a dormant spicebush plant. What is the best way for me to keep it alive until I can plant it in early May? I live in Gambier OH and am hoping to draw in a Spicebush Swallowtail when the plant is large enough.

I sent the response accidentally. Spicebush is dioecious, meaning male and female reproductive organs are in separate plants. If berries are the goal, having one male plant to several females is adequate for berry production. After planting, water it well and keep the soil moist until new growth appears later in March. If you can't get it planted soon, it is suggested that you put the plant in a pot with good potting soil and water it well. Place the potted plant in a sheltered location outside until you can transplant it into its permanent location.
