Native plants #892316

Asked February 05, 2025, 8:16 AM EST

I am an ATV club member and we have recently completed ATV trails. Now we would like to beautify some of our trail areas. Is there a program to assist nonprofits achieve this? And what plants would you recommend? Trails go through forest areas as well as open areas. I have contacted a local master gardener but he is unaware of any program

Expert Response

Hi,

Thanks for your questions!

Check out this page of grant resources by Metro Blooms. You'll be able to eliminate some resources (focused on Twin Cities/residential), but there could be something useful there.

Check out this page by the Minnesota Native Plant Society.

It might be worth doing a pilot first - using ATV club member volunteers and donated plants - both to better understand the needs on a larger scale and to point to later as a demonstration when seeking funding or other kinds of support. Plant or seed donations could be solicited from a nursery or individuals. (If plants will be transplanted, make sure to read this guidance on jumping worms.)

Good luck - sounds like a good project!!
