1/22/2025 Hello, Has MSU created a registry for cottage food businesses? The bills passed in 2022 have the following information, but there is not a lot of detail available online about how to find out if it is actually a thing. Also MDARD has not updated cottage food law info to include these passed bills. https://www.google.com/search?q=does+msu+have+a+registration+for+cottage+food+vendors+for+bill+5671&sca_esv=115fbc7a5c2d88aa&ei=102RZ7HbFZTnwN4PhaHQqAs&ved=0ahUKEwjxoo3QjoqLAxWUM9AFHYUQFLUQ4dUDCBA&uact=5&oq=does+msu+have+a+registration+for+cottage+food+vendors+for+bill+5671&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiQ2RvZXMgbXN1IGhhdmUgYSByZWdpc3RyYXRpb24gZm9yIGNvdHRhZ2UgZm9vZCB2ZW5kb3JzIGZvciBiaWxsIDU2NzFI8R5QlQZYlR1wAXgBkAEAmAGmAaAB5wuqAQM3Lje4AQPIAQD4AQGYAgigAs4HwgIKEAAYsAMY1gQYR8ICBRAhGKABwgIFECEYqwKYAwCIBgGQBgiSBwMxLjegB-tA&sclient=gws-wiz-serp [Yes, Michigan State University (MSU) has a registration program for cottage food vendors through the MSU Product Center. This program was made possible by House Bill 5671 (H-3). Explanation House Bill 5671 allowed cottage food operations to register with the MSU Product Center. The bill also required cottage food operations to label their products with their name, address, and MSU Product Center registration number. ] Can you point me in the right direction, please? Thank you for your time.

Jay,

The Bill 5671 did not pass all the way through the House, there for the changes in the Bill did not change the Cottage Food Law.  There are new Bills that the Michigan Farmers Market Association and others are trying to get introduced into legislature that would have a registration process for Cottage Food Operators with MSU Product Center for a fee of $50.  Similar to what was introduced in Bill 5671.  Currently however there have been no changes to the Cottage Food Law.  None of the bills that have been introduced have passed.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
