Need advice on how to revitalize scattered dead patches of grass in my front lawn (about 17 ft X 17 ft. The grass in those patches has disappeared. I have used fertilizers and other chemicals but to no avail. This condition has been the case for almost a year. The sprinkle system works, but the front lawn is on an incline which could cause the water from not getting absorbed into the ground but instead runs down.

Thank you for your question, Pascal. There are several reasons that turf grass does not grow, or is unhealthy, in our lawns. It can include diseases in the soil, including fungi; insect infestations; chemicals that have been released into the soil; and issues such as sun, water and fertilizer mis-steps. We don't have enough information to determine what your lawn's problem is (or are), so I suggest that you read the following comprehensive OSU Extension publication about lawns in Western Oregon to determine what action(s) to take: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pub/ec-1550-practical-lawn-establishment-renovation
Whatever the cause, winter is not the time to remedy them, but you should be up to speed by the time temperatures rise enough to begin solutions. Good luck!
