Pruning during a freeze #891748

Asked January 20, 2025, 12:50 PM EST

Pear, apple, and cherry trees need pruned. Night time temps are around 25 and daytime 40. Should I wait until danger of any freezing temps are gone?

Hi, thanks for reaching out.

Wait a little bit longer and start pruning early to mid-February. Then, you don't have the risk of tender new growth getting nipped in a frost.

If you have questions about pruning consider attending one of our free hands-on pruning classes. These are held at the Marion County Master Gardener demonstration garden in Salem. Here's the calendar. Fruit tree pruning is on Feb 15th.
Take a look and let me know if you have any questions!
