Composite source of vegetable variety recommendations #891724

Asked January 19, 2025, 4:58 PM EST

I'm looking for vegetable variety recommendations for the Front Range. Some of the plantalk videos have such information, but not all, and watching them for each veg. species is slow. Is there a single source where I can find suggestions of varieties for various common garden vegetable species? I've been digging near https://planttalk.colostate.edu and related sites, but not finding a set of one or more relevant PDFs.

Hello,

This is a great question and no, we don't have them all listed in one location. Plant varieties (for any crop) is really subjective to a lot of people and they change rapidly with new introductions.

On March 1 from 10am-12pm at the Old Town Library, there is going to be a seed swap hosted by Home Grown Food and it's a huge community event. You could go there and ask the volunteers about varieties and what they prefer - and also get some seeds.

I can refer you to a couple of videos taught by Cassey Anderson in Extension that focuses specifically on veggie varieties:

And one that is coming up on February 12 at noon (it is recorded if you cannot make it and will be posted to planttalk.org/webinars):

Join Cassey Anderson from CSU Extension for an informative and interesting discussion on some of the lesser-known (and lesser-grown) vegetables for Colorado gardens. Tips on growing and varieties will be shared.

This Saturday, from 9:30am-11:00am, Amy Lentz from CSU, will be doing a talk at Fort Collins Nursery on growing peppers and tomatoes - I suspect she will cover varieties too: https://fortcollinsnursery.com/event/growing-peppers-and-tomatoes-in-northern-colorado/
