"stratiolaelaps scimitus" for fungus gnats #891665

Asked January 17, 2025, 11:20 AM EST

:) I've tried sticky traps, watering with hydrogen peroxide, watering with mosquito larvae killer...nothing is killing my fungus gnats, and I've been trying for more than five years. I can't start plants in spring or do indoor bulb gardens because they infest. I saw online (You Tube: Gardening with Bugs) that "stratiolaelaps scimitus" will do the trick, and that this is what commercial growers use. Do you know if that is indeed how commercial growers control fungus gnats? If so, do you know if there are there any local places that sell "stratiolaelaps scimitus"? I can't afford to pay 60 Bucks for overnight shipping from AZ, and would rather support local businesses anyway. Thanks for your help! Ruth

Expert Response

Fungus gnats are tough to get rid of!  I am not familiar with this predatory mite and I find no information on the Extension website. In doing a quick google search, I see a number of suppliers with prices ranging from $16 to $28.  Sorry I have no experience with. this. Give it a try.
