Drive Point Well #890987

Asked December 23, 2024, 11:55 AM EST

I’m looking to put in a hand pump in my back yard and was hoping I would be able to put in a drive point well since they’re easy to install though I know they require porous soils. Would you be able to tell me if the soil in my area would be compatible with a drive point hand pump well?

Expert Response

Hi, I have heard very little about drive point wells in Licking County. There is a big variation in soil types throughout the county. We are at the border of glaciated and unglaciated ground. It would be important to know your exact location and I would be glad to work with you privately. My direct email is <personal data hidden> Some information you can investigate on your own is at this link: https://waterwells.ohiodnr.gov/search/interactive-search On this ODNR website, you can look for wells near you and the type and depth they are. I don't know how good people are at reporting any drive point wells as these require a special label be attached to the well. Often it would be easier to plumb a hydrant from your existing water source but I don't know about your situation.
