pest and discolored leaves on olive tree #890880

Asked December 17, 2024, 3:31 PM EST

A little olive tree overwintering in a small greenhouse has some sort of reddish brown pests on leaves and stems. Additionally, some of the leaf tips are discolored. Can you please identify the pest for me, and suggest treatment options. And do you think the pests are causing the leaves to discolor or could this be frost damage (temperatures in greenhouse have dipped below 32 degrees on a few nights recently). Any help would be very much appreciated.

Unfortunately, you have scale insects (the orange things on your final picture). They must have been brought with the plant indoors or from a nearby plant.

If they are just concentrated on that single branch, consider pruning it off. Otherwise, I would recommend a horticultural oil application.
