where should I look to buy an eastern red cedar tree that is tall, more like the wild variety (40 to 70 ft tall). Our local nursery only carries the JUNIPERUS VIRGINIANA 'GREY OWL'.

Unfortunately we can't say, because Extension doesn't collect information about what inventory nurseries offer. Any of the larger nurseries would potentially stock non-dwarf cultivars of Eastern Redcedar, such as 'Hillspire' or 'Emerald Sentinel' (two of the most common non-shrubby redcedar varieties on the market). Native plant nurseries would probably carry the straight species, but we do not have a list of such nurseries to share because we don't currently track that data. You could explore the resources compiled on the linked pages below, though, to try to find nurseries to inquire with:
