Gardening Education #890674

Asked December 10, 2024, 11:06 AM EST

Good Morning, I work at a school with special education students and would like to bring in gardening activities for them as well as learn more about careers that are related to horticulture. I was wondering if it would be possible in the spring to come and help us set up a garden. We would plant it in the spring prior to summer break and be looking to do crops that would require little effort to maintain over the summer that we could harvest in the fall when the students return to school. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Expert Response

Thank you for your question to Extension. You have a wonderful idea to introduce gardening to your students by growing a garden! There are several places to explore for help with your garden depending on what county you live in. The first place would be the Extension office in your county. Master Gardeners in each county may help you, but each county has different resources. Here is a link to find your county Extension office:

Also, the Minnesota Horticultural Society is a resource for you. I would give them a call to see if they provide assistance to schools. Here is the link to their website:

Good luck and happy gardening!
