photos of healthy raspberry patches #890602

Asked December 07, 2024, 2:43 PM EST

Hi, I struggle with figuring out how to prune my raspberries. I can never connect my actual berries with those drawings of plants with lines showing where to cut. I think what I need is to see what my plants are actually supposed to look like in various seasons. So I'm hoping that you could send me actual photos of healthy patches in winter, spring, summer and fall. As they should look in Portland, Oregon. By the way, I appreciated the article about leaving stalks for native bees. I had no idea that they nested in the spent canes. I will be eternally grateful if you could send me such phots. thanks in advance!!

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Ruth.  I am afraid that sending photos as requested, because we don't have enough information about your plant varieties and environment, and pruning different entities of the plant depends on factors not mentioned.  I suggest that you read this comprehensive guide to berry growing in our region, and write back if you still have questions.  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pub/ec-1306-growing-raspberries-your-home-garden

I hope that this is a start.  Good luck!
