What are these white stringy and white sacks that were buried underground? It was in the soil of my dying persimmon tree?

Expert Response

Hi,

We don't know exactly what they are, but they appear to be a type of fungi, probably an opportunistic decay fungus. They wouldn't have been responsible for the death of the persimmon though.

They won't be harmful to anything else that is planted there, either. Many decaying fungi will form when wood or organic matter is dying to aid in the decay process and help break them down.
