Expert Response

Thank you for your question for Extension. The catalpa tree is a nice deciduous tree with large showy leaves and white flowers which bloom in the spring. They have large seed pods which appear on the tree in fall and may hang on into the winter and even spring. Because of this, you will not see any buds this fall or winter, but when the pods fall off, the leaves and flowers should appear. Here is some information about the catalpa tree from the U of MN:

Thank you so much this is an immature tree, so I was fearful it died when I did not see leaf buds for next year.  Buy you are saying they will show in the spring?

Thanks!
