Black needles on Arborvitae #889816

Asked November 14, 2024, 9:15 AM EST

I noticed today on the north side of my Arborvitae some of the needles are turning Black. Not brown as most of the info that I can find addresses. It is not taking over the whole tree but want to stop it if I can as it is a beautiful one 5 years old and almost up to the shed roof. Any advice you can give would be very much welcomed.

Thank you

Expert Response

Hi - It is hard to diagnose a problem just by a brief description. My advise is to take some close up pictures and send them to the horticulturists at <personal data hidden> with a description of when the problem started, is the black area getting bigger, is the plant in sun or shade, are you watering, etc? If need be, they would give you directions on how to submit a sample to the plant diagnostic lab.
