Hello,
This appears to be a type of fungus or environmental issue. Here is a list that may help you identify the correct problem: https://ohioline.osu.edu/search/site/turf?f%5B%5D=hash%3Apr1wnh.
Having a soil test will also help identify issues. Here is information on getting a soil test. https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/hyg-1132. The results of the test will also give you some ideas to help increase the health of your lawn.
Typically, you will avoid these problems by having a healthy lawn: water early in the morning, avoid compaction by aerating, fertilize properly.
I hope this helps!
