Red current branch growths #889405

Asked November 05, 2024, 8:52 PM EST

Hi, What are these growths on my flowering red currant? How problematic are they to neighboring plants? Thank you! LeeAnne Brogowski

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, LeeAnne.  The only infection that seems to be a potential is a fungal disease, called rust.  But you would have found it on the leaves as well.  There is a chance these could be insects, perhaps a scale.  I suggest that you send plant samples to the OSU Plant Clinic for an accurate diagnosis.  Here are directions:  https://bpp.oregonstate.edu/plant-clinic/submit-sample/how-submit-plant-materials

Good luck!
