strawberry patch #889291

hi i would like to know how i can contain my strawberry patch so it does not spready. i would like to be able to secure it with fencing/screen and hot have it grow beyond that so the animals do not get to it.

Hi Neal, thanks for the question.

Strawberries can be tempting to birds, voles, chipmunks, deer and other critters. To keep your strawberries from wandering too far from protection there are a few things you can do.  Redirecting and/or removing runners is probably the best method.  This can be done through tilling, trimming, or redirecting and pinning.  Keep in mind that the onslaught of pests does not just come from above the ground. Voles can be a problem from below. Check out the video from Robert Pavlis, a well-respected gardener, on his method for protecting strawberries from pests:
