Hello, I'm splitting wood from a neighbor's ash tree and noticed it is infested with larvae of a boring beetle. The larvae generally look like Emerald Ash Borer larvae, but I couldn't find a key to positively identify the larvae. I've attached pictures and also have specimens. Are they EAB larvae? If so, is thereany actions that should be taken? Thank you.

Thank you for contacting us regarding the borer found in an ash tree. The easiest way to determine whether it is actually and emerald ash borer (EAB) is to examine the bore holes in the bark. EAB make distinctive D-shaped holes.
For a positive identification of the grub, please take one or more samples to your local Extension office. They can send it to the experts at OSU for closer examination. Here is their contact information:
