Winter watering Rhodis #889191

Asked November 01, 2024, 3:25 PM EDT

I planted small rhodis in the spring and they have done well. Now the bottom half of two look droopy. The soil seems moist around them. I read that rhodis should be watered in late fall to see them through until spring but I hesitate to water them for fear of killing them with too much water. Help!

Geauga County Ohio

Expert Response

Hi,
You should try to figure out why it's moist or wet around them.  It sounds like poor drainage.  I checked precipitation for Geauga County for the past 30 days and most of the county is almost normal or normal with one small area above normal.  If you happen to be in that one area with normal or slightly above normal rain, then much of your yard would be equally wet.  Is it?  or are the rhodis in a wet spot?
A photo might help but not necessarily.  Wet roots can definitely lead to droopy unhappy plants.
