Cherry tree #887639

Asked October 10, 2024, 11:59 AM EDT

What is this on my ornamental cherry and should I be worried?

Expert Response

Iworth135, I'm sorry to hear about your cherry tree. What you're seeing is a fungus, often called a conk. Unfortunately, it is a sign of heart wood rot. Sadly, it is too late to do anything about the internal damage of the tree. I have attached a couple of articles to give you more information, and some suggestions about what to do next.

Thank you. I was afraid of that. Didn't look good to me.
