We don't recommend any painting or wound treatment except in the case of oak trees in areas where there may be some risk of oak wilt, and the paint would need to be applied right away to help even in that case. If you would like to upload a photo, I could advise whether the damaged area needs any additional pruning to clean up the wound. Basically, you don't want to leave stubs beyond the branch collar.
